Guitar
I offer lessons on acoustic and electric guitar for all ages and skill levels in all popular genres (rock, pop, blues, country, etc.) as well as beginner and intermediate jazz. Lesson topics include fundamentals and technique on the instrument, music theory, reading sheet music and/or TAB, building repertoire (a fancy musician way of saying songs), and improvisation. Different students are also often interested in different topics, meaning certain topics and genres are covered in varying levels of depth for different students.
Composition and/or Songwriting
I also offer composition lessons as well as songwriting lessons. Styles of music include all popular genres (rock, pop, blues, country, etc.), jazz, and music for media (film/TV, video games, YouTube/streaming background music). However, students interested in composition or songwriting more broadly as opposed to a specific style are still encouraged to sign up, as the fundamental topics are the same. Lesson topics include music theory, melody writing, chord progressions, orchestration, arranging, and lyric writing (songwriting only). Students interested in composition should have access to either an engraving software (MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale), a DAW (Logic Pro, Garage Band, Pro Tools, Ableton Live), or intermediate to advanced knowledge of an instrument. I use Logic Pro as my main DAW of choice so I can also teach students the fundamentals of Logic Pro.
Students interested in both guitar lessons as well as composition lessons are recommended to enroll for a single time slot, and time will be split between both topics. Every student is an individual after all, and the exact curriculum will vary heavily by student and evolve over time.
